WELCOME

to The Milking Parlour...

your luxury rural retreat set in the beautiful

Quantock Hills of Somerset.

England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

About us

Who are we and what will you find at The Milking Parlour?

Owners, Andrew and Hilary, moved to Somerset in the summer of 2020, having bought a series of old stone barns that had been the cow sheds and milking parlour of an old dairy farm. They spent nearly two years converting the barns into their own home as well as developing The Milking Parlour into what it is today. Below are some pictures of the property to give you an idea of what to expect if you choose to come and stay with us. For booking details scroll down or click here.

Originally the Milking Parlour was where the milking machines were. We have converted this into a characterful and comfortable space that you can be totally relaxed and away from it all.

With beautiful views all round there is a sunny SW facing terrace where you can enjoy the evening watching the sun go down.

A welcome basket is provided for your arrival with a few essentials, but nearby Nether Stowey offers a well stocked village shop, a post office and a very popular butcher / fishmonger, who also offers some vegetarian pies. Being quite rural, large supermarkets are about 20-30 minutes away, so you might want to stock up on your way here.

There are three pubs within a mile or so, The Kitchen Bistro Restaurant is less than a mile away at The Quantock Lakes Wedding Venue.

We should advise that a car is pretty essential here, as public transport is not great!

Location

Why here?

It's all about the setting!  Set in 8 acres of beautiful countryside, The Milking Parlour will offer you a perfect base while exploring the area. Situated at the foot of the Quantock Hills and only a short 10-15 minute drive to the coastal paths, the whole property is surrounded by stunning views, big skies and beautiful wild countryside. You can walk along the woodland paths or over moorland, spot wildlife such as red deer, wild ponies, buzzards and so much more. There are limitless bridleways, footpaths and bike tracks to either cycle at leisure or get your adrenaline rush on the many steep mountain bike routes. Less than an hour's drive is the 6 mile long sandy beach of Brean Sands, or you can head west on the Steam Train towards Dunster Beach and Minehead. The medieval village of Dunster is well worth a visit, along with the dramatic Dunster Castle with it's beautiful gardens and views over the Bristol Channel to Wales. We have much to offer in and around Over Stowey too, with the Coleridge Way passing close by, where the natural beauty has inspired many poets including Coleridge and Wordsworth. The National Trust property, Coleridge Cottage, is in Nether Stowey which also boasts its own 12th Century Castle and hosts a number of art and craft activities through the year. After all this activity you can come home to the comfort of your own rural retreat to relax and look back at those dramatic hills.
